Frobel’s Gift (가베) Froebel's work lead to his invention of kindergarten - the concept that children should be nurtured from an early age, like new shoots on a plant. Through this metaphor, he coined the term "kinder-garten" or "garden of children." Froebel created his own teaching materials, adapting or inventing tools for achieving this goal. His "Gifts" are the symbolic building blocks of the universe, made from basic geometric forms of sphere, cube, cylinder, etc. The kindergarten was immediately adopted across the world. As children of the 19th century played with his gifts, Froebel influenced entire generations of visual artists and architects
Music Music is a natural part of the daily classroom routine in the form of rhythm, instruments, dancing, singing, and finger plays. A variety classical music is also played. Children may use headphone and a CD player to hear their favorite composer’s work at any time they like.
Art Our children gain the skill to express themselves with crayons, watercolors, tempera paint, clay modeling, collage and may other kinds of materials. Our teachers are experienced in “feeding back” the feelings of excitement in their work so that the children do not become dependent upon praise.
Physical Education Since young children are meant to “move” and to practice bodily control with their very active minds, they soon learn to control their large and small muscles. Children carry tables and chairs and gain the confidence that they “can do it!” We go outside every class session for at least thirty minutes unless the weather precludes it” Pouring: We do not go outside. Sprinkling” We do go outside with our waterproof hooded jacket and boots!
Field trips and Cooking projects are done through the year.
Units of Study In addition to the Montessori materials we enjoy a different theme or unit of study each month. Examples include: The Human Body, The Five Senses, Trees, Plants, Birds, Dinosaurs, Ocean Life, The Planets, Insects, Transportation, Whales, and Community Helpers. The children are encouraged to bring in items of interest to share with the class that relate to these themes.
